I feel really safe here and most of the time people don't even give me a second glance. This confidence allows me to cycle in the dark. I still prefer getting night time cycling done before sunrise as opposed to after sunset. It's useful to have a bit of daylight to find a place to camp.
Today was my first big day with no real stops. I have to carry enough water to last at least 100 miles as there is not much going on in this desert. I love it though. 38 degrees and dry. . . even though I am getting burned to a crisp. Have resorted to cycling in full compression gear. Long sleeve and long tights. Has to be done when you are practically a vampire like myself.
I hit the real Atacama tomorrow. Can't wait.
Thanks for all your messages.

P.S. sorry for any typos. Pretty knackered and doing this on an iPhone.
