The first few days were hard, the waves were big and I didn’t have the yacht near me, which meant I was relying solely on carb/protein shakes from MyProtein. These really helped as each shake was 600kcal but I still felt I needed warm meals to keep warm and stay healthy.
After Newquay I’ve had the yacht near me at all times and it’s made the world of difference. I’ve been eating nearly 4-5000kcal per day (which probably still isn’t enough) and have felt great.
Here is roughly what I eat during the day.
Wake up: 120g MyProtein carb shake and bowl of oats
Every 90 minutes thereafter: 100g My Protein carb shake and a hot meal from Stowaway Food which can be heated with a Jetboil in 4 minutes.
End of each session: My Protein Carb and Protein shake and a Stowaway meal.
Dinner: We are catching fish (Owains job) almost everyday from the side of the boat so have some fish and another Stowaway meal.
This system seems to work the best for me at the moment. I still seem to get cold after about 3 or 4 hours in the water but this is partly due to loosing weight and my suit not fitting as snug as it did before. I might need to get a thermal under vest . . . or just man up a bit! :-)
