Then a few things happened!!
I realised I suffer from the cold, I would need more food than one kayak could carry and there would be some points where we wouldnt be able to stay on shore because of big cliffs. I also found out that some tides would push me very far off course and I might also get water on the lungs and swimmers ear. All these discoveries changed my approach to the swim and naturally increased my kit list. Below is a list of pretty much everything I am taking and the reasons as to why I am taking them. I wanted to prepare myself for every eventuality.
Wetsuits X4 - Speedo Men's Tri Elite. I have four so that I can get into a dry wetsuit each day. I'll rotate them. They fit perfectly and so far haven't had any rubbing. It's as if the mannequin they came off was my twin. Result!
Jammers X3 - Above the knee swimming shorts to go under wetsuit.
Goggles X10 - I have various Speedo goggles. So far they are all pretty comfortable but no doubt I'll fall in love with a certain pair for no particular reason other than their colour. I'm liking the orange ones pictured above so far.
Swim caps X15 - I have various caps that are all brightly coloured so that my crew can spot me in the waves.
Tri Neoprene Cap - When it is cold the tri cap really does keep me warm. I put it under my main cap and it almost stays dry.
Neoprene balaclava, gloves and shoes - Again if it's cold and also when I encounter swarms of jellyfish I'll need to cover up.
Front facing swim snorkel - For times when Im drinking too much salt water
Fins - In case the tides and currents are too strong
Ear and nose plugs - to stop swimmer's ear and water going up my nose
Hip bag - I'll probably swim with a bag around my waist on my back which will have a whistle, energy bars, my GPS Tracker and my phone just in case things go wrong and I am left alone.
Reflective tape and light - For visibility at night.
Aquabeat MP3 player - Listening to music while I swim really helps.
